Job Description:

National Covenant Properties (NCP) is a $400 million "church extension fund" making loans to congregations and affiliated entities of The Evangelical Covenant Church. Founded in 1970, National Covenant Properties has a primary mission of making real estate loans to member congregations of The Evangelical Covenant Church for their property needs. NCP has funds to make these loans by accepting investments from people affiliated with The Evangelical Covenant Church.
Over the last forty-eight years, NCP has grown to over $400 million in assets with over $270 million in loans to 300 projects around the United States and Canada. There are over 4,500 Covenant member households from all 50 states who have invested a total of $335 million into Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs), Health Savings Accounts (HSAs), Fixed Rate Certificates and Variable Rate Certificates providing the resources for NCP to make loans.
NCP offers a broader range of real estate services primarily in coaching of land and building acquisition, facility planning, general preparation for loan application, and sale of real property from closing Covenant congregations.

The Vice President and CFO reports directly to the President and serves as Chief Financial Officer. This leader has the opportunity to partner with the President, the two Vice Presidents (VPs) for Real Estate Services, the Board of Directors, and the rest of the staff in fulfilling a number of mission critical areas:

  • Serves as an advisor to the Board of Directors of NCP.
  • Serves as an advisor to the Board Investment Committee of NCP. Works to recommend and implement various investment strategies in line with NCP financial needs.
  • Plans, develops, organizes, implements, and direct management of the financial systems of NCP with President and staff to insure financial health, accurate reporting, and financial audits take place in timely manners.
  • Engages with NCP President, NCP’s VPs of Real Estate Services, regional Conference staffs, as well as CEOs and CFOs of affiliated Covenant entities on financial matters relating to real estate transactions and NCP financing.
  • Collaborates to ensure technological and security programs and processes, cybersecurity initiatives and internal controls are responsive to business’ and constituents’ needs. Oversees system upgrades and implementation.
  • Develops and implements marketing strategies for selling investments and services of NCP.
  • Participates in the development of the organization’s strategic plans and implementation of resulting initiatives and other assignment from the President of NCP.

Experience and Skills:

Required: Bachelor’s degree in business, economics, finance or accounting, or equivalent combination of education and experience. At least ten (10) years of related financial experience, including management of financial staff, extensive working knowledge of and/or involvement in the commercial real estate lending field, banking, astute financial analysis, and general management of financial investments. Expert knowledge and experience with standard (GAAP) and not-for-profit accounting principles along with a heavy customer service emphasis. As all investment products offered by NCP are legally considered "securities", the candidate must be able to hold a minimum of a Series 63 Securities License (must be received within the first 90 days of employment).

  • Mastery of Office 365 (with a high reliance on Excel) and other analytic tools. Working knowledge of Microsoft and Windows application, databases development and management, and web technologies.
  • Detail oriented, strong organization, prioritization and time-management skills are evident.
  • Excels in attention to detail with high level of accuracy in preparation of financial transactions, written documents, reports and correspondence.
  • Effectively communicates in written and verbal forms in person and via communication mediums.
  • Works well under pressure and is able to accurately accomplish multiple tasks, with conflicting priorities and timelines. Ability to track and report progress on a wide range of tasks, simultaneously.
  • Ability to respond to and deal with a range of ad hoc queries/requests.
  • Capable of managing stress by accepting criticism, engaging in conflict resolution, dealing calmly and effectively with high stress situations.
  • Ability to operate with discretion and confidentiality at all times, especially related to customer information.
  • Excellent management and people skills to embrace diversity of schedules, backgrounds, formats, contexts, etc.
  • Uses critical thinking skills to exercise discretion and independent judgement, applying logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to address challenges.
  • Self-starter and ability to work independently.
  • Does all above and still generates "fun" and "enthusiasm".

Environment Conditions
Able to work well in professional office setting, occasionally works evenings and weekends. Moderate domestic travel required. Must be versatile and able to work for prolonged segments sitting or standing. Must engage frequently with office tools and equipment, such as: computer, copier, phone, web-conferencing equipment, cell communication, printers, calculators, scanners, etc. Must be able to occasionally lift or move items, less than 35 lbs.
