Job Description:

The Director of Social Enterprise will contribute to the overall efforts of the LMDJ mission priority as it joins God, where God is already working, to make things right in a broken world. The Director of Social Enterprise will serve as the consultative and technical lead on market analysis, research, program design and business development projects. The Director of Social Enterprise will train, coach, equip and mobilize entrepreneurs, congregations, Christian community development entities to create, grow and sustain CovEnterprises. The Director of Social Enterprise Ministries will lead and direct the Bezelal affordable housing ministry.

This position will bridge and manage resources to the mosaic of the Evangelical Covenant Church (ECC) while functioning within a complex, fluid environment. The Director will leverage resources to support entrepreneurs, innovators and community development minded groups in launching, leading and expanding businesses where the “bottom-line” is soul and neighborhood transformation.

Essential Functions

• Help to mobilize and strengthen sustainable CovEnterprise projects across the breadth of the ECC.
• Identify sustainable initiatives, projects and resources within the Matthew Micah Framework (see attached).
• Establish and sustain formalized coaching relationships with local project leaders.
• Create and oversee formal process of development, launch and evaluation for all CovEnterprise projects.
• Continually enhance the ECC’s reputation as a denominational leader in the field of social enterprise, economic development, and community transformation by producing innovative content, reflective best practices and evaluative frameworks for internal and external stakeholders.
• Identify and coach a network of industry experts to strengthen the support network available to existing and potential social enterprise ministries.
• Support the development and launch of collaborative enterprises on a national scale that engage broad issues of poverty and injustice.
• Develop a best practice hub for immersive training/coaching for ECC pastors, leaders and prospective social enterprisers.
• Create and lead an ever-expanding suite of training resources, learning opportunities for both social enterprise development and derivative topics related to economic empowerment and community transformation.
• Other duties as assigned by Executive Minister of Love Mercy and Do Justice.

Experience and Skills:

Required: Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in Program Development, Nonprofit Administration, Business, Social Work, Community Development or related field of study. At least five years of experience in community development, program development, and management experience. Seasoned cross-cultural networking and collaborating skills. Will possess a collegial orientation and a commitment to the distinctives of the ECC. Experience with urban/multi-ethnic community and/or program development.

Preferred: Master’s degree, Theological training. Experience in Pastoral Ministry. Previous entrepreneur or business owner. Experience in property management, construction, rehab and retail. Bilingual (English & Spanish, reading/writing/speaking).
